Our Journey continues to Seattle, Washington, where we are visiting David’s daughter Ariel and son in-law Francisco. We hadn’t seen them since shortly after their wedding in Austin in January 2022, so we were very excited to spend time with them.

Ariel & Francisco’s Excellent Wedding

By the way, they had the most awesome wedding!

We arrived SeaTac International Airport on July 1st. Our plan is to stay in the area until August 8th.

We layed low for a few days, getting used to our new surroundings. Our airbnb is an upgrade in both comfort and price to the one we had in Geneva. This is also a one bedroom furnished apartment, but it has been recently renovated. The 4k TV still has protective wrapping on it and portable A/C and vacuum cleaner have never been used. Bathroom and shower is awesome and the full-sized kitchen has measuring cups and cutting boards! I’ve been spending lots of time in the kitchen, cooking various meals for David and the kiddos. All in all, I think we’ll feel at home here.

David is enjoying the reunion with his 32″ 4k monitor that he had shipped to Ariel when we sold the house. The other monitor is an extra that Francisco had, that was supposed to be for my lessons, but David is using it on my days off. The man likes his real estate 🙂

The day started out with a fairly decent breakfast – a “western quiche” comprised of black forest ham, red pepper and sharp cheddar mixed into a standard quiche recipe. Instead of a quiche crust, I line a buttered pie pan with homemade bread crumbs. I had to improvise with this one by using crushed wheat thins. The pie pan was smaller than I expected so it overflowed when I poured the mixture into the pan. Rather than clean up the mess, I just stuck it in the oven to cook along with the rest. It turned out pretty good.

We spent the day at the apartment doing some work, watching some baseball and relaxing. In the evening, Ariel and Francisco came over to take us to see fireworks up near Everett, which is along the shores of Possession Sound, north of Seattle. We got there kind of late so we missed the last bus to the designated viewing area, but we found a nice spot at the water anyway.

Seattle Japanese Garden

Today was our designated sightseeing tourist day. First stop was the Japanese Gardens, a picturesque 3.5 acre formal garden. It was designed and constructed under the supervision of world-renowned Japanese garden designer Juki Iida in 1960. Located within the Washington Park Arboretum on the shores of Lake Washington, within the city limits of Seattle and not too far from the Space Needle. The weather was perfect – sunny and low 70s.

Fun time had by all!
