There is nothing better than family time. Yes, it can be stressful and stuff, but really, none of that matters. I love family time. This holiday season has been my favorite, hands down, best ever. I could die tonight and be happy.
Before leaving Houston, we got a special treat. Ariel & Francisco had been in town over Thanksgiving and were scheduled to fly back to Seattle prior to our arrival. Lucky for us, Ariel got covid and had to stay in town additional days until she was in the clear. The good news was her symptoms were mild and we got to visit with her the day before she left. We had a nice outdoor picnic (Frenchy’s!)
It’s Sunday, and all the family are gathered at Transfiguration. Andrea/Ty/Stassi came up from Houston the day before and we met Cassandra at church. I had to not think about it, otherwise I would have cried the entire service. Fr. Vasili was so inspirational, my friend Anita sat in front of me next to George (our PC prez) and Christina (our past Greek school teacher). It was really quite special – so special that I didn’t take any pictures! The only picture taken at the church was this one of Anastasia in front of the icon of St. Anastasia of whom she is named after.
And then there was family time at the townhome.
This year our Christmas meal was not the usual Pastitsio with all the greek things (tyropita/spanakopita, horiatiki salata, tzatziki, homemade bread, etc). Because Ty is trying to be gluten free, and David/I are avoiding pasta, I went for prime rib, mashed cauliflower, roasted broccoli, fresh green beans, and smashed potatoes. Turned out pretty darn good.
Our time in New Braunfels is coming to a close, and a perfect end to this “family time” entry is about the head of our family – my husband David. I can’t say enough about the guy who I’ve known since my children were tiny. To use his words, he is my “neutron moderator” and he’s pretty darn good at it. God has blessed me with a number of tiny miracles in my life, but none more larger than putting David in my life. I would marry him again in a heartbeat and be utterly happy being lost on an island with him.
